I’m Anna Halza. I’m a writer, actor, and theatremaker.
I’d love to work with you.
I’m based in Norman, Oklahoma. I’m currently finishing up a B.F.A. in Drama with an emphasis in Dramaturgy, and a B.A. in Professional Writing.
As an artist, I am deeply dedicated to creating visceral, exciting experiences to new audiences. My work is boldly unapologetic- as is my dedication to bringing art to nontraditional spaces.
Bold Art, Always.
Bold Art, Always.
Arts Administration
As Co.Artistic Director of Co.Arts Theater Company, I am dedicated to producing new works in Oklahoma. I am a two-time recipient of the UReCA grant, which enabled me to bring two theatrical productions my beloved Norman. I believe fervently in the importance of rolling up one’s sleeves in the name of making art happen, and have developed a robust skillset that includes: Grant Writing, Fundraising, Budget Management, Social Media Management, and more.
Writing
As a writer, I lean on my dramaturgy training extensively. I write best when surrounded with other creatives, and take the art of feedback reception very seriously (Liz Lerman, you have my heart!). I aspire to write plays that are explosively fun for actors to perform! Last year, I joined Co.Arts Theater Co.’s devising group, The Co.Hort.
My devised work includes: How to Smoke Three Cigarettes at Once (Co.Arts Theater Co., 2025) and This City Will Eat You Alive (Co.Arts Theater Co., 2026). My full-length plays include: DINNERTIME: A Play in Seven Courses (Co.Arts Theater Co.), and Exceptional (Eaton Theater). My shorter work includes: Another Beginning (UReCA Grant).
You can find my work on New Play Exchange.
Acting
Every acting job is a passion project. I particularly enjoy characters that portray a depth to the lesbian/queer experience. My more recent roles include: Phyllis in Body Awareness by Annie Baker (OUSTC), Susan in The Secretaries by The Five Lesbian Brothers (UReCA Grant), and Sarah in Camp Contrition by Hadley Shipley (SheDFW).
Past Projects
Currently, I am revising drafts of my play, DINNERTIME: A Play in Seven Courses, which will be produced by Co.Arts Theater Company in September of 2026.
I also am developing This City Will Eat You Alive with Co.Arts’ devising group, The Co.Hort.
This City Will Eat You Alive
In the wake of all-too-common tragedy in an American city, a community distracts itself against unimaginable loss and grapples with fear, tumbling into absurdity as they go.
Written in response to the dystopian crises playing out in modern-day American cities, This City Will Eat You Alive is a theatrical collage of those left in the aftermath, stitching together the landscape of a community grappling with grief, distraction, and the struggle of retaliation in a world of inaction.
Coming to Green Bay Fringe in July 2026.
DINNERTIME: A Play in Seven Courses
When a hedonistic ex-nun (with an insatiable craving for meat) invites an overly-enthusiastic data analyst over for a dinner date, the two find themselves trapped in endless fascination with the other's oddities. Over seven courses, all with their own unique culinary constituents, the two deliberate over several philosophies: the tenets of truth and beauty, what should and should not be edible, and the undeniable pull of desire (carnal and otherwise). The play culminates in the ultimate act of sin and sacrifice: she eats his heart out.
Coming to Oklahoma City in September 2026.
